Fighting to End Hunger
In Arkansas, 1 in 5 people struggle with hunger. In Jefferson County, nearly 30% of the population lacks access to sufficient healthy meals to feed their families every day. We have taken on the fight to help end hunger in our community by creating three programs that connect families with healthy meals throughout the entire year.
Our summer feeding program provides a healthy breakfast and lunch to children during the summer months and into the month of August. These meals are vital to our community as children are no longer getting the school day meals that many of them need. We partner with our local Public Housing Authority, the Pine Bluff Police Department and smaller nonprofit organizations to serve more than 800 children from 11 different sites all over the Pine Bluff and Jefferson County area.
At-Risk Feeding Program
We have been a proud member of the At-Risk After School Meals program for nearly a decade. We provide a healthy dinner and snack to hundreds of students throughout the school year. Not only do these kids receive a healthy meal, but they also participate in after school enrichment programs that help keep them safe between the hours of 3 and 6pm after school has ended and before many parents have arrived home from work.
Community Food Baskets
In addition to feeding students, we also serve families throughout the year with our community food baskets program. Our baskets contain perishable items like meat, fresh vegetables, & bread, as well as non-perishable items. Many of the participants in this program are elderly members of the community who live on a fixed income and grandparents raising grandchildren who need extra support.
